If you're looking for a place that will offer you both a job and affordable housing, Texas might be your best bet. A new report entitled "Best Cities: Where Work & Home Meet" puts Arlington, Texas at the top of a list of cities with the most affordable housing and plentiful job openings.
The list distinguishes between cities with the most affordable options for both renters and buyers and the number of available jobs in each.
For those looking at renting a home, Arlington came in first, followed by Phoenix, Mesa, Ariz., Houston and Fort Worth, Texas on the list of cities with the most job opportunities and affordable two-bedroom apartments and townhouses to rent.
For those looking to buy, Arlington also came in first, followed by Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit, and Houston on the list of cities with the most job opportunities and affordable homes to buy.
The data were compiled by SimplyHired.com, a job listings website, and Trulia.com, a real estate search site. They compared the number of job listings to the median listing and rental prices for the 50 largest cities in the U.S.
Each of the top five cities for renters has between 45,001 and 300,000 job openings, as well as two-bedroom rentals that don't exceed $1,000 a month.
Each of the top five cities for owners has between 45,001 and 300,000 job openings, and homes that don't exceed $170,000.
San Diego and Virginia Beach, Va. were at the bottom of the list with the fewest number of job openings and the least affordable housing options.
