Tip: Lazard Expands Financial Institutions Group

Lazard expanded its financial institutions group by hiring James Spencer as a managing director. He follows his former boss, Gary Howe, from UBS. Spencer also spent time at Credit Suisse First Boston and the FDIC – a prime example of how common zigzagging between public and private sectors really is. Lazard hired 22 bankers in the first quarter, the most recent period for which information was available.

Tip: Wells Fargo Hires Investment Bankers from Citadel as Part of Build-Out

Wells Fargo is on a mission to expand its investment bank and build relationships with clients. It recently hired 25 investment bankers from Chicago hedge fund Citadel to get closer to that goal. Accompanying the bankers are all the deals the Citadelites were working on, including an underwriting position on the Groupon IPO. The bank is approaching the build-out through both organic hires and acquisitions.
