A Luxurious Career Path

By Damian Ghigliotty

If you've been thinking about starting a career in sales or marketing for a luxury goods company, 2012 might be an even better year than last.

While Kraft, PepsiCo and Procter & Gamble continue to shed jobs in the face of tepid consumer spending among the masses, luxury brands -- such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton -- are showing plenty of promise.

The world's largest players in the luxury goods business are expanding on their successes from 2011 as emerging markets continue to drive spending on items ranging from expensive bags to champagne, The Wall Street Journal reported.

In turn, many of those companies are setting up shop around the world. The French holding company PPR is planning 110 store openings for its luxury division this year with half of them in Asia.

Last September Forbes spoke to Kate Benson, founding managing director of the boutique executive search firm Martens & Heads, about how to get a job in the luxury business.
