Farmers Insurance, H&R Block, Liberty Tax Service and John Thomas Financial top a CareerBuilder.com list of companies looking to bulk up in September.
Farmers Insurance, the third-largest U.S. property-and-casualty insurer, wants to hire 250 producers, agents and managers. This hiring comes at a time when the company is planning on cutting in other areas. At newly acquired 21st Century Insurance, Farmers is looking to trim its work force by 554 jobs in 2009 and 750 by the end of 2010.
H&R Block, the largest tax-prep company in the U.S., is looking to hire 500 tax professionals in preparation for next April. The company recently announced a plan to further streamline operations under CEO Russ Smyth and to lower its prices.
Liberty Tax Service, a Virginia-based tax prep company, is looking for tax professionals and possible franchisees. According to Nina Cunningham, a communications exec at the company, Liberty is looking to expand from 3,200 offices in the U.S. and Canada to about 3,700. That translates to 1,500 openings.
John Thomas Financial, a Manhattan-based broker dealer, has just moved into new offices at 14 Wall St. and is looking to hire 500 independent financial advisers.
